Construction (PD Rap V1L1-4)

Lesson 1: Construction

In this lesson, you will practice constructing lines of eight syllables each.  This is typically the maximum number of syllables a person can commit to his short term memory without knowing any meanings.  As such, it will construction in this unit will be more challenging than those of previous units, but now this difficulty will also be curbed by your more developed abilities to perceive and retain Spanish sounds.

The ultimate goal of this program is to develop your ability to mimic utterances of Spanish without having to know what the utterance means.  This ability requires a short-term auditory memory skills.  The purpose of making this section more challenging to you is to develop your Spanish-specific short-term auditory memory.  As always:

  • Do not move on to the next line until you can chant the current line from memory.
  • Refer back to the “Basics” page if you are unsure about a specific sound.
  • Do not push yourself.  If you find that you are unable to progress no matter how hard  you try, take a break and come back at least a couple hours later, preferably after a night of sleep.

Line 2

Line 3

Line 4

Once again, because you are learning more syllables in this lesson, it’s important that you are comfortable chanting each line separately from memory before moving on to the memorization section.
